In the very center of Opatija, on the first row to the sea, one of the most famous villas of the Opatija Riviera is for rent – Villa Keglevic. The villa was built back in 1891 for Countess Angelika Keglevic (née Esterhazy) and was called the “large” villa Keglevic to distinguish it from the Countess’s other smaller villa in Opatija. The cadastral plan of Opatija from 1897 shows the historic garden of the villa in its original state. The villa belonged to the Countess until her death in 1921, after which it became the property of the Croatian Count Ivan Drašković, and in 1930 the villa was converted into a guest house, Miralonda. The villa has been preserved and is quite well preserved on the outside, while the interior has undergone reconstruction in the attic due to the increase in net usable area and has been divided into floors by partitions. Externally, it has retained its original form, except for the attic where light domes have been added and on the ground floor where a doorman's office has been added.
